• Al entrar a TaxWise: «Color style file is missing. Using default colors…»

🇺🇸 “File missing” errors when opening TaxWise or inside a return

What they look like: different messages, same kind of problem — the program is missing a file from its installation. Two that have come up:
• When opening TaxWise: “Color style file is missing. Using default colors…”
• Inside a return, when typing the zip code: “Microsoft ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver: File 'zipdata.dbf' does not exist”

📁 BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANYTHING: copy the whole UTS folder somewhere else (an external drive or the cloud). The returns live inside, under UTS → User → Guest, but copy all of UTS: if your office has more users, each one has their own folder and the Guest folder alone would not be enough. This is the first step, not the last.

What to do, in this order:
  1. Repair from Windows — Control Panel → Programs and Features → find that year's program → Repair. ⚠️ This is the Windows Repair, not the one in the program's installer.
  2. dbrepair — it lives inside the program folder (UTSXX, by year) and repairs the database.
⚠️ If it warns that a computer still has the program open, do NOT run it — close it everywhere first.
📞 For this step it is worth calling Tech Support and doing it with them.
  3. If the message is still there, that year's program has to be reinstalled.
⚠️⚠️ Do not reinstall blind. If you do not know the correct procedure, call Tech Support and let them walk you through it: done the wrong way it can delete the program's data, including your returns.

💡 If the error is on a computer that is not your main one (a test machine, or one not on the same network), say so when you call — it changes what they check.
