🇺🇸 Reject F8962-006-01 that changing line 5 does not fix
The situation: a return with
Form 8962 (Premium Tax Credit) rejects,
line 5 is adjusted with an
override, it is transmitted again and it
rejects once more with the same code.
⭐ What fixes it: delete Form 8962 and do it over.Do not correct it in place. Remove it from the return, add it again so the program calculates it from scratch, and
create the e-file again.
Why: removing an override
does not clear what the form already stored internally. On screen the numbers look right, but what travels to the IRS in the e-file still carries the old value — which is why changing the number does not change the outcome.
What if the reject is because line 5 reached 400% or more, with no override involved? That is a different situation with its own procedure:
See the article →⭐ The rule, and it works for any form: if you ever placed an override on it and it
rejects twice with the same code, stop adjusting the number —
delete the form and redo it.
If it still rejects after redoing it, the issue is no longer in the return and has to be resolved with the IRS.
