Why it matters: when a return has a
bank product, the account sent to the IRS
is not the taxpayer's, it is the bank's (for example, EPS). The IRS deposits the refund with the bank, and the bank pays the taxpayer with the method they chose: check, direct deposit or card.
So if the IRS asks the taxpayer to
verify the account the refund went to, or the taxpayer hasn't received the refund, the account on record
is not theirs. The correct routing and account are in the return, so you can verify them yourself.

not have a bank product, it shows the account entered for the taxpayer's direct deposit.
